James Bennett, Jr. Offers Success Manual to Students Adversely Affected by the Texas Supreme Court Affirmative Action Ruling
Lakeland, Florida – October 8, 2012–The Texas Supreme Court may soon rewrite the rules for affirmative action programs. At the heart of the matter in Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin is whether or not the school and state-enacted laws unfairly and disproportionately favor minority college applicants. Experts site studies which say that when minority students attend schools in which they have to compete with students who have earned higher grades and scores, they gravitate out of competitive fields such as pre-med and engineering.
James Bennett, Jr. offers the guidelines to success along with the personal testimonies of himself and eight other students who are contributing authors. “The average person in the urban community could go their whole lives without learning the information in my book. The lessons of The Manual: A Guide to Achievement & Enlightenment in the Urban Community is like a sail to a boat floating aimlessly in the middle of the sea. It will give minority students adversely affected by the Supreme Court Ruling on Affirmative Action full control of their destiny.” Says Bennett, a professional journalist since 2006.
While everyone awaits the new ruling, James Bennett Jr., author and senior at Bethune-Cookman University looks forward to offering answers. The Manual deciphers information from modern business classics and self-help books. This knowledge is distilled into an easily digestible 98-page book written by a 21-year-old African-American journalist. “I make a point of making the information easy to understand,” he said. “I remember looking at books that were interesting to me as a teen and thinking to myself, ‘I have to read 500 pages just to learn something everyone else knows?’” Students adversely affected by the ruling on Fisher v. Texas will need to use success techniques to keep going. “The Manual” by James Bennett Jr. is available everywhere on October 12, 2012
