To give Bartow’s Jeremy Henderson a position would be an insult. The 6’0” 190 pound athlete primarily plays wide receiver, but against George Jenkins Sept. 2 he was a force at defensive end. He and his ten teammates swarmed the Eagles offense in Bartow’s 31-10 win; not allowing a single offensive touchdown. Henderson’s performance made him the Polk County Football Week 2 Defensive MVP.
“We’re playing good,” Henderson said about his defense. “As long as we keep doing this I feel like nobody can beat us.”
In Bartow’s next game against Lake Region, Henderson caught a touchdown pass, threw a pass for more than 40 yards, and earned a first down on a fake punt. The Yellow Jackets also shut down Lake Region’s offense in their 34-0 win. Though he looked natural against the Eagles and Thunder, he is still inexperienced on the defensive line. He credits his position coach for helping him find his way as a defensive end.

“He’s one of my favorite coaches really,” Henderson said. “He taught really everything I really know about d-line. It’s really my first time playing it, and I’m doing pretty well.”
Henderson has received collegiate offers from Troy and Louisville and he said he looks forward to returning to Bartow Memorial Stadium and earning his team’s first home win of the season against Auburndale Sept. 16.
“It feels good; coming out with a win,” he said. “It’s the same when we’re on the road. We just give them a show.”
