Polk County Football Week 3 Defensive MVP: Tim Lowery

When Winter Haven safety and cornerback Timothy Lowery was in his first days as a Blue Devil he asked his older teammates if he was good enough to make it.
“Growing up I used to ask the older defenders, Ohaji Hawkins, Javonte Arius, if I was good enough to start on varsity,” he said. “And they used to always say, it depends on how much work you put in. So ever since then I keep that in my head. Every time we do drills, or anytime we get a chance to stay after practice or work out on weekends. I’ll do anything. I’ll do anything to get better, because it depends on how much work you put in.”
Lowery was all over the field in the Blue Devils’ 28-21 comeback victory against Ridge Community High School Sept. 9. He made tackles on special teams, broke up passes, and earned the Polk County Football Game of the Week Defensive MVP. After going into the half down 21-7 in their home opener, Lowery said that his defense “woke up” during the half time break. In the second half, the Blue Devils defense didn’t allow the Bolts to score.
“It was crazy, we were coming out trying to win our opening game and we weren’t taking it serious at first. Once we realized we were losing we went in at half time, and we got each other up. We got together as a team. We said that we weren’t going to lose our opening game; we knew we were still in it. We just went out there and finished business.”

The 5’11” 160 pound junior seems to be always excited after making tackles.

“I just like to make big plays, set momentum and get the crowd going; get our team hyped up. Hopefully my teammates see me and keeps it going.”
Lowery said that his passion for the game was cultivated by Coach JD, Lowery’s coach for the Auburndale Bulls.

“From 2009 until I went to high school, he was my coach.” he said. “He’s the one that motivated me to be a team leader; a team captain. To keep pushing. He always told me I would be something special. He stuck with me through all those years and led me on the right path.”

Lowery is in his junior year and his second as a varsity player. Lowery hasn’t received any scholarship offers yet but his ultimate college goal is clear.
“I want to go to college and get me a degree,” “I want to go to college and get my Master’s degree. So after college and go into business or become a schoolteacher. Become a football coach. Something like that.”
